How To Use Your Rhythm Guitar Skills To Get Ahead Of 99% Of Lead Players

Dec 13, 2025

If you already know your way around a killer riff, you are in the best position to have a seat at the table of high-performing lead players

The problem is that we tend to restrict ourselves to one of two different pathways: rhythm or lead playing.

You join a band with another guitarist; one of you has to be the lead player. And if you’re not the “better” player, you are stuck in right field on rhythm duty.

But why does it have to be like this?

Why is there such a binary to the way we approach our style of playing?

You see, just because you lean more toward one half of a guitar duo over the other, it doesn't mean you have to be stuck there. Specifically, if you want to be a more well-rounded player, your approach to practice should reflect that desire. That means if you've been limiting yourself to riffs but feel called to expand on your leads, now is the time for you to do just that.

Once you realize that you already have the skills inside you to execute flashy, face-melting guitar solos, your whole world will open up, and you'll amaze yourself as to how much you're capable of.

Today, I want to help pull out that shredder that I know is inside you. The best part is that you probably have the skills you need to do the job already.
